The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) governing body along with its working committee and subcommittee would meet in Mumbai on Friday at a Special General Meeting (SGM) to discuss the implementation of change in the working structure of the world’s most powerful cricketing body with regards to the recommendations made by the Lodha committee.

The SGM has been convened to figure out a way forward after the report submitted by Justice Lodha to bring things “in line” for the better functioning of the sporting body and to have more transparency.

The Board members are completely taken aback with the report, among the recommendations are limitation of tenure for the Board’s office-bearers, prescription to limit their age to 70 years, one state-one vote (set to directly affect the associations within the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat) and barring of ministers and government officials from holding office.

The affiliates of BCCI had been advised to review the recommendations of the report and analyze the situations and discuss the implementation of various changes.

Earlier this month, the BCCI President, Shashank Manohar had met the legal committee to seek advice about the Lodha Report.

BCCI secretary, Anurag Thakur quoted in his letter to the affiliates. “As some of the recommendations have far reaching consequences, it may be advisable to seek an expert opinion as to how the same would affect your association.”

In one of the earlier press conference, Thakur had stated, “The BCCI is not looking for an escape route. We believe in transparency and accountability. In the last nine months, we have done things which would indicate that we are in the right direction. The Lodha committee has recommended many things but every member has the right to look into the recommendations.”

The Supreme Court has asked BCCI to respond to the Lodha committee report by 3rd of March.
