Being liked by everyone as a cricketer was my dream since early days: Babar Azam

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, in a recent interaction, revealed that he dreamt of being the best player in the world ever since his childhood. He said that he continues to keep his focus on the young-age goal and tries to improve him keeping that in mind.

In a video shared by the ICC, Babar Azam said, “I always wanted to be the top player, when I was young it was my dream to be someone who’s liked and backed by everyone as a cricketer.”

He said, “I’m still in that quest and trying to be more consistent and improve my performance. I’m always focused on my goal.”

The Pakistan skipper has inspirationally led his troops in the ongoing T20 World Cup where the Asian team is ruling the points table in their group after victories over India, New Zealand and Afghanistan, with fixtures against Namibia and Scotland left. Given that, Pakistan are now a sure entrant in the semi-finals.

He said that it is every player’s responsibility to live up to the expectations of the fans and that is what their team is doing in the mega-event currently. “It’ is a responsibility to live up to the expectations of fans,” Babar said.

“They always expect us to perform in every game and I draw confidence from that. I always aim to keep my fans happy and satisfied with my performances and help Pakistan win matches,” he added.

Babar added by saying that his only aim is to keep the nation on the path of success, but he also cautioned the team to not be complacent after three successive victories. “In a tournament like this, we will have to be at our best in every game and perform with consistency, we can’t be complacent at any stage against any team because the moment you give a bit of margin to your opponent, they will be in a position to snatch the game away from you, so we will have to be at our best,” he concluded.

Pakistan started their campaign with a massive 10-wicket win over India, followed by a five-wicket win over New Zealand. They completed their hat-trick against Afghanistan and will face Namibia on November 2.
