India’s veteran pacer Umesh Yadav echoed the sentiments of his Indian teammates Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma as he believes that the World Test Championship is of the same stature as the ICC World Cup. India topped the points table of the World Test Championship and will thus lock horns against New Zealand in the final of the ICC event from June 18 to June 22 at Southampton.

After India qualified for the WTC final, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and speedster Ishant Sharma hailed WTC as the World Cup. Umesh also harbours the same views as he reckoned that there is no uncertainty regarding whether he will be able to make a comeback in India’s team or not. Thus, for him, WTC is special and different.

The 33-year-old backed his stance saying that the Test Championship was no ordinary competition as they will be reaching the finals after defeating many class sides. “Yes, Ishant Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane are correct. As a player when you are playing Test matches, the WTC is like a World Cup for you.

“It’s very uncertain if we are going to get to play ODIs in the near future. So, as a Test match player, WTC is like a World Cup only. I also think the same. WTC final is different because you reach that place by defeating a lot of good teams,” said Umesh Yadav in a chat as quoted by Times of India.

Can’t say if India has the best fast-bowling attack in the world: Umesh Yadav

There is no doubt about the fact that the Indian side boasts of having one of the lethal and intimidating pace attacks to their side. India’s decorated pace attack includes the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Ishant, and Umesh.

When Umesh was questioned on whether India has the best bowling attack, the speedster exclaimed that the bowling unit has really flourished in the recent past and is one of the best, if not the best.

“Can’t say if India has the best fast-bowling attack in the world or not because there are so many teams with incredible talents. I’m sure as of now for India our fast bowling attack is the best and we are trying to improve and work and train on all our areas,” he said.
