Cricket New South Wales (CNSW) confirmed the veteran batsman Ben Rohrer would not be offered a new contract for the coming season thus signifying the end of the stalwart’s decade-long career with the Blues. CNSW further confirmed that the 36-year-old has been appointed as Tasmania’s new State Talent Manager.

However, he will still continue to ply his trade for the Sydney Thunder in the KFC Big Bash League. As reported CNSW chief executive Andrew Jones spoke very highly of Rohrer and revealed how his presence will be missed by the team.

“Ben is a quality cricketer and person. He treasured every game he played in the Baggy Blue and was a calm and wise presence in the NSW squad throughout his career. Ben has been a terrific mentor to our young players in word and deed, being a strong cricketer on game day while being respectful, kind and giving to his teammates and support staff,” he was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“Ben’s presence will be missed but he will remain part of the cricket family. He will return for the coming season with the Sydney Thunder and is an excellent appointment as Cricket Tasmania’s new State Talent Manager,” Jones said.

In his new role on the Apple Isle, he will now oversee list management at Cricket Tasmania under Drew Grin, the new high-performance manager.

Rohrer’s career so far

Rohrer made his debut in the Sheffield Shield in 2007. In his very first first-class match against Tasmania, he hogged the limelight with a spectacular 163. He would go on to feature in three Shield finals, winning one of them. In 2013, he made his first and what would be his last international appearance for Australia in a T20 match against the West Indies. He has been at his best in the shortest format of the game, playing integral roles in five separate tournament wins.
