England all-rounder Ben Stokes will remain under arrest for his involvement in the late-night brawl outside a bar in Bristol. Earlier, according to the statement released by England Cricket Board (ECB), it was announced that he, along with Alex Hales won’t be considered for the England selection until further notice. Stokes has been asked to travel to Bristol in next seven days and will be interviewed under caution.

However, the video footage released by ‘The Sun’ on Thursday made things worst for the all-rounder in which he can be seen punching a guy 15 times in a minute with Hales involved in hitting the other guy initially. But soon he tried to calm the former after realising that the situation was going out of control. The duo missed the fourth ODI against Windies in London and will continue to miss the series as the investigation continues.

ECB to initiate an enquiry

Dawid Malan was called up in the One-Day International squad to replace Hales whereas Sam Billings was asked to stay with the team after being called up as cover for Stokes in the first place. He played the match on Wednesday and is expected to retain his place for the final game as well. In the midst of all the events, ECB director Andrew Strauss will initiate an inquiry into the case against the two cricketers to the Cricket Discipline Commission, headed by Tim O’Gorman.

The statement of the board cleared that both the players would remain on full pay as the investigations from the board and the police will continue. It also said that the decisions were taken after the video footage was released and viewed by ECB earlier in the day and were fully supported by the chairman of the board Colin Graves. The future of Stokes completely depend on the outcome of the police enquiry and soon his availability for the high-profile Ashes series will be known.
