Cricket commentator and former Indian cricket team director, Ravi Shastri had a dig at the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly. During the first session of Day 3 of the Test match between India and England at Vizag, Shastri lashed out at Ganguly while having a discussion on the Indian bowling line-up. Shastri praised India’s current pace bowling duo of Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami.

According to him, this is one of the best pace bowling duos for India in recent times. He also went onto term them as ‘Vidarbha Express’ and ‘Sultan of Bengal’ as Umesh Yadav is from the Vidarbha region and Shami is from Bengal.

However, Ian Botham, the fellow commentator queried to Shastri, whether the ‘Prince of Bengal’ already exist, as he was signalling about the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, who was famously known by that name from his playing days. Shastri replied to this saying that there is much more to know about Bengal then and Bengal is not limited to just one prince.

During the selection of India’s head coach, Shastri and Ganguly had a clash as Ganguly was not present when Shastri was in course of his presentation for being the coach of India. Ganguly was a key member of the four-man Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) along with Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and BCCI convenor Sanjay Jagdale.

For this Ganguly had replied back then saying, “If Ravi thinks because of me that he is not the coach of Team India, then he is living in a fool’s world. Ravi has made a personal attack which was not expected and is very saddening.”

Ganguly also said that that Shastri should have been physically present for the interview, who was in Bangkok and attended the interview through video conference.
