After losing two consecutive ODI’s on a trot, Sri Lanka came into the 3rd ODI with the prospect of losing the 5 match series against the mighty Proteas. They were pretty lacklustre in the previous two matches and needed something extraordinary to change their fortunes around.

Sri Lanka came out to bat for the 3rd time in the series and looked in complete control of proceedings. After an impressive half-century partnership between Niroshan Dickwella and captain Upul Tharanga, the latter fell prey to Kagiso Rabada in the 10th over of the innings. It was just the start of a procession of sorts as the visitors lost three more wickets in quick time.

The game was going along nicely but just after the dismissal of Dhananjaya de Silva something strange happened. As Chris Morris was about to deliver the final delivery of the 25th over, a swarm of bees invaded the pitch and the players lay flat on the ground. It continued for a few minutes but relented pretty soon for the match to commence.

The bees again came back during the 27th over as the umpires paused the match. As of now, it is unsure that what sort of impact will the bees have on the match but it keeping safety first it will be ideal for the umpires to take the players out of the pitch which they might do eventually. The match has been stopped for the time being as the bees seem to feed on Quinton de Kock’s helmet.

Opener Niroshan Dickwella is looking good at the moment batting on 55 and his contribution will be important if Sri Lanka harbours any hope of winning the 3rd ODI and keeping the 5 match series alive. Captain Upul Tharanga looked pretty impressive during his innings of 31 before giving away his wicket to Kagiso Rabada.
