Herschelle Gibbs had a career with on and off the field attractions. The explosive opener is famous for his drop catch of Steve Waugh in the 1999 World Cup. While his 175 in a record 434-run chase against Australia is a fondly remembered innings- his tryst with controversies is also privy to all.

Gibbs had been accused of racism within teammates. The right-hander was banned for two tests as he was charged guilty of making racist comments “go back to the zoo” against Pakistan in 2007. He was also fined hefty amount for being caught smoking marijuana with teammates on the tour to West Indies in 2001.

The former Proteas opener accepted that he had taken $15000 from skipper Hansie Cronje for scoring less than 20 runs in an ODI against India- although he scored 74 in that game and was consequently banned for six months. In his autobiography, Gibbs has revealed about his sex scandals, abusive drinking, drugs association and criticisms towards Graeme Smith and co.
