The biopics of great India cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni were a huge hit at the box office. They were released globally and fans loved the respective movies. It gave an insight into the lives and the journeys of two players, who are considered as legends of the game. Another movie creating a buzz is the biopic based on one of Indian cricket’s biggest moments and that is the 1983 World Cup triumph.
Kabir Khan is directing the movie while famous Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is all set to play the role of India’s 1983 World Cup winning skipper Kapil Dev. The other roles were not assigned yet but Kollywood actor Jiiva confirmed that he will be playing the role of former cricketer and Kapil Dev’s close friend (in real life), Krishnamachari Srikkanth. The former opening batsman was the highest run-scorer in the final of the ’83 World Cup.
There were rumours that famous Telugu actors like Vijay Devarakonda and Allu Arjun might be approached for the same role. However, Jiiva confirmed the signing of the film. He said that it is a big honour to play Srikkanth in his debut Bollywood film.
“I am avid cricket buff. I have played several local matches and even been in winning teams. When I got the opportunity to play ace cricketer Srikkanth and that too in my debut Hindi film, I was thrilled. I consider this as a big honour. I am looking forward to the day when I stand in front of the camera for 83,” Jiiva was quoted saying by Deccan Chronicle.
Shooting of this 100-crore movie to start in May
It is not easy to play the role of a sportsperson even if it is in front of the camera. Hence, Jiiva revealed that he is getting trained by former India cricketer Chandu Border on a daily basis. He also revealed that the shooting is scheduled to start in May. The team will be shooting in London for about 100 days.

This biopic is slated to hit the cinemas in April this year. However, the shooting is yet to be complete and no new date has been announced.
