Cricket and Bollywood share a striking bond, especially since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The likes of Shilpa Shetty, Shah Rukh Khan, and Preity Zinta have been owners of the celebrated teams in the T20 league ever since the opening season. Apart from them, there have been several eminent actors who have graced their presence in stadiums during the tournament.

At the same time, former Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been one of the stalwarts in the event and has garnered a significant fan-base across the globe. He has been among the most sought-after players in the league as he has captained the Chennai Super Kings to great heights. Recently, Neetu Chandra, a popular Bollywood actress has hailed Dhoni as her idol in an interaction with the media.

“A sporting idol”- Chandra

“I do watch IPL and CSK is my favourite team. I love CSK because Dhoni, who is my sporting idol, is the captain. I look up to him and have a brotherly feeling for him as we come from the same region. What I like about him is that the temperament with which he handles cricket and stardom is just amazing,” Chandra was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview by mid-day.

Apart from cricket, the Bollywood diva also follows lawn-tennis and revealed her favourite player of the game. Chandra, who is also the brand ambassador of Taekwondo, praised US tennis star Serena Williams for her glorious career. “I’m a big fan of Serena. I think she is an amazing fighter, especially now as she has made a comeback after being a mother. I love everything about her,” she added.

Chennai Super Kings have had a rough time following their two-year suspension in 2016. However, the team will make a comeback when MS Dhoni’s men will take the field against the Mumbai Indians in the opening game of the tournament on April 7 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
