All in all, it was a pleasing weekend for most cricket-loving Indians across the world, who rooted for Team India for their opening Champions Trophy game. The Men in Blue routed arch-rivals Pakistan in Birmingham to kick off their Champions Trophy defence in style.

Interestingly, the packed stadium at Edgbaston had some familiar faces. Among those was Bollywood’s current heartthrob Ranveer Singh, who not only cheered India on from the stands, but also made a guest appearance during the innings break at the studio.

Ranveer Singh and Virender Sehwag have fun times

The ‘Bajirao Mastani’ star shared a laugh with former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, right after India had posted an authoritative 319 in the first innings.

Sehwag later tweeted a photo of himself and Ranveer, who was in his usual nonchalant and lively comportment. The caption along with the picture read, “Good time with @RanveerOfficial.”

In reply, Ranveer also tweeted a short yet delightful message for Virender Sehwag, which read, “Aapke jurabon ka jawab nahi! It’s always a blast with You, Viru Paaji! thank you for today! Good times indeed!”

Ranveer Singh also congratulated the Indian Cricket Team for their emphatic victory over Pakistan on Sunday. He tweeted with his typical flamboyant personality. “What a match the boys played! Scintillating all round performance! Banging start to the tournament! #INDvPAK,” he wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

The Indian top order fired in unison to propel the Men in Blue to 319 in the first innings. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan opened the batting and provided a steady platform for the likes of Kohli and Yuvraj to cut loose. Both openers scored half-centuries, and Rohit, in particular, looked good to tee off towards a fine century. However, he fell 9 runs short.

Meanwhile, Yuvraj played the role of the aggressor and struck the ball as clean as a whistle. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, edged forward and accelerated after his fifty. All-rounder Hardik Pandya provided India with a scintillating finish, smashing Imad Wasim for 3 sixes in the final over.

Pakistan lacked initiative in the chase. Wickets at regular intervals further stalled them. Eventually, India handed Pakistan a thumping 124 run defeat.
