There was a sense of belief across Bangladesh cricket fans after ICC banned Shakib Al Hasan on Tuesday. The all-rounder failed to report as many three corrupt approaches and hence the apex body decided to take strict action on him. However, it has been revealed that the alleged bookie Deepak Aggarwal who messaged Shakib for inside information had also contacted Tamim Iqbal.

Aggarwal had sent repeated messages to Shakib Al Hasan during the tri-series in January 2018 asking him for the information twice. He had also approached the 32-year-old during the IPL 2018 ahead of the 26 April match between SRH and KXIP. The southpaw didn’t provide him with any information but also didn’t inform the Anti Corruption Unit about the same and this is where he was deemed guilty.

Tamim had reported the incident immediately

Meanwhile, the Bengali Daily Kaler Kantho has reported that apart from Shakib, the ICC’s ACU had spoken to six other Bangladesh cricketers including Tamim Iqbal in January this year as a part of their investigation. It was then revealed that Aggarwal had sent messages to the Bangladesh opener as well after which Tamim had blocked him on WhatsApp.

The cricketer had also reported Aggarwal to the BCB’s Anti Corruption Unit immediately. After knowing about the same, the ACU had cleared Tamim Iqbal from the matter. Having said that, the names of the other five Bangladeshi cricketers are still not known. Many are shocked though as to why didn’t Shakib report like his teammate did.

Meanwhile, after the left-hander was banned by the ICC, the whole country came out to support Shakib while even the Bangladesh cricketers posted a message for him on social media platforms. “Age level.. international… over 18 years of playing cricket together… very sad to even think about playing without you on the field. Hoping that you come back soon like a champ. You always have my support and the whole of Bangladesh. Stay strong In Sha Allah,” Mushfique Rahim’s post read.

Bangladesh’s ODI captain Mashrafe Mortaza who hasn’t played since the World Cup also hoped that Shakib Al Hasan will come back strong and lead the team in 2023 World Cup.
