The India U19 team led by 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw possessed more experience and a much better exposure when compared to all the other participating teams. The difference was evident as they were completely dominant, authoritative and absolutely demolished all their opponents on the way to the final and in the summit clash as well. Among those who were floored by their effort was Kings XI Punjab team co-owner Preity Zinta.

India met Australia in the first match of the tournament, beat them comprehensively by 100 runs to set the tone for how things would roll then on. Their next opponent was a much weaker Papua New Guinea. Shaw asked them to bat first and his bowlers restricted PNG to just 64. All it took them to scale it back was 6 overs and they won the match with 10 wickets and 252 balls to spare.

Zimbabwe suffered similar fate as they were bowled out for 154 and India won the match by 10 wickets with 170 balls remaining. That secured their entry into the knockouts as the top placed team from the group.

They met Bangladesh in the quarter-final and it was expected to be a good game. Batting first the Indian team posted 265 which was certainly a par score on that surface. When the match resumed for the next half the Indian bowlers continued to dictate terms an all Bangladeshi boys managed was 134 in 47.3 overs before being bowled out. They won that match by 131 runs and sealed a semi-final clash with arch-rivals Pakistan.

It was finally thought that the Boys in Blue will be tested. They batted first and scored a big total – 272 in 50 overs, Pakistan would have all sorts of problems chasing that down given the uncertainty in their batting and the way the opposition bowlers had operated. Their worst nightmare unfolded and the Pakistani team was wrapped up for a mere 69 runs. India won the match by a whopping 203 runs.

In the final Australia decided it was time to test the chasing prowess of this rampant bunch from India but a first inning total of 216 wasn’t really imposing. With no pressure of the scoring rate and an excellent knock from Manjot Kalra helped India chase down the target with over 11 overs and 8 wickets in hand.

To laud this effort of the Boys in Blue, Preity tweeted – “Congrats to the U19 Boys in Blue for winning the #CWCU19 Loved the celebration Rahul Dravid take a bow. #INDvAUS #kalra #undefeated”
