Bangladesh Premier League has hit the floors with its seventh edition. All the sides taking part in the tournament have been rechristened as the BCB has done away with the franchises this time. After the first two days of high-octane clashes, BPL continues to enthral its audience as Dhaka Platoon lock horns with Cumilla Warriors in Match 6 of the competition.

Dhaka Platoon are one of the most successful franchises of the BPL. Platoon have lifted the trophy thrice in six seasons and have ended up as runners-up twice. They are touted as favourites to clinch the trophy in this edition as well. The Mashrafe Mortaza-led side is equipped with many game-changers in its arsenal. However, they suffered a nine-wicket defeat in their inaugural match of the tournament against Rajshahi Royals. After amassing 134 runs on the board, Platoon’s bowling attack to restrict Royals’ batsmen.

Anamul Haque emerged as the best-performer for Platoon as he scored 38 runs off 33 deliveries. However, their bowling force comprising the likes of Mashrafe Mortaza, Mahedi Hasan, Wahab Riaz and Shahid Afridi failed to leave an impact. Platoon will be eager to register their first victory of the tournament.

Cumilla Warriors, on the other hand, started their campaign on a high note as they demolished Rangpur Rangers in their opening match of the competition. Skipper Dasun Shanaka stole the show by smashing a quick-fire 75 off just 31 balls, helping Warriors to post a massive score of 173 on the board.

Al-Amin Hossain emerged as the pick of Warriors’ bowlers as he scalped three wickets and conceded only 14 runs in his spell. He was assisted by Soumya Sarkar and Sunzamul Islam, who also picked up two wickets each.

Pitch and Conditions

It is expected to be a perfect sunny day for a cricket match. The temperature is expected to deviate between 24 degrees Celcius throughout the day and there are no chances of rain whatsoever, according to Accuweather. Moderate humidity levels are also expected during the course of play. The wicket is considered to favour the spinners. Hence, the team winning the toss will be looking forward to batting first and posting a competitive total on a spin-friendly wicket.

Regarded as one of the strongest teams of the BPL, Platoon have several match-winners in their squad. The trio of Tamim Iqbal, Laurie Evans and Anamul Haque will be aiming to guide their side to a flying start. Haque played a stellar knock of 38 runs off 33 balls in his previous match.

Despite getting out on a golden duck in his previous match, Shahid Afridi has the potential to turn the tables in Platoon’s favour with his robust power. The experience of Shahid Afridi, Thisara Perera and Mashrafe Mortaza will be vital for the Platoon. They are expected to fill the void of Shakib Al Hasan. Wahab Riaz and Mahedi Hasan. will also strengthen Platoon’s bowling force.
