Rajshahi Royals outclassed Dhaka Platoons in the 3rd match of BPL 2019-20 by a margin of nine wickets. It was the opening game for both the sides of this season and turned out to be a one-sided affair. Platoon players failed to perform with the bat and ball because of which they ended up on the losing side.

At the start, Royals won the toss and elected to field. However, the bowlers proved their skipper decision right and dismissed the prolific opener, Tamim Iqbal, in the 2nd over of the innings off Alok Kapali. Laurie Evans, the right-hand batsman came out to bat on number three, who struggled to score runs against Royal bowlers. He amassed 13 runs off 14 balls before his inning came to halt as he was caught by Alok Kapali off Farhad Reza.

The middle order of Platoon collapsed in front of Royals bowlers that left them struggling on a score of 91 runs at the loss of seven wickets. Their top layers like Shahid Afridi, Thisara Perera and Ariful Haque failed to perform with the bat in the opening game of their side for BPL 2019-20 season.

Only Jaker Ali (21) and Anamul Haque (38) showed some resistance and successfully spent some time on the wicket. In the end, they could only manage to post 132 runs on the scoreboard. Ravi Bopara turned out to be the best bowler for Royals, who registered bowling figures of 1/15.

Coming onto the chase, Royals got off to a great start on the back of their openers Hazratullah Zazai and Liton Das (wk), who stitched a brilliant partnership of  62 runs for the first wicket. Das’ innings of 39 runs off 27 balls with four boundaries and two sixes came to a halt as he was dismissed by Mehdi Hassan. But, till then Royals had already taken a lead in the match over the Platoon.

Afterwards, Royals didn’t lose a single wicket and successfully chased down the target with 10 balls to spare. Zazai emerged as the only player to score a half-century in the match. He played a reliant knock of unbeaten 56* runs off 47 balls with five boundaries and three sixes. For Royals, Shoaib Malik also contributed well with the bat and scored 36 valuable runs.

Bopara was given Man of the Match for bowling a brilliant spell of 1/15. The Royals’ fans were elated and congratulated them for convincingly winning their season opener against Platoon
