It goes without saying that the Khulna Titans’ campaign in this edition’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is well and truly in dire straits as they have tried out 19 players. In their last match against Chittagong Vikings, Mahmudullah’s team became the first to concede a 200 plus total in this BPL. They are the current cellar dwellers of the tournament with only one victory from seven encounters.

Rangpur Riders, led by the veteran Mashrafe Mortaza haven’t had the best of seasons either and are at the fourth position with three wins from seven matches. However, their last victory against Sylhet Sixers at the SICS is expected to keep the defending champions in good stead. Both Riders and Titans are next scheduled to lock horns in the first of tomorrow’s doubleheader at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium.

Pitch and Conditions

After some low-scoring affairs, the pitch in Dhaka has sparked life and batsmen are slowly starting to find their feet. Yesterday, Comilla Victorians and Rajshahi Kings were involved in a high-scoring encounter and the bowlers had a tough time in putting a lid to the run-scoring. Bearing in mind the batting-friendly conditions, it won’t be a surprise if the teams opt to field first after winning the toss.

Paul Stirling has been lacklustre thus far and Dawid Malan may replace him. Junaid Siddique is the other opener with Al-Amin at number three. The onus will be on Brendan Taylor and Mahmudullah to steady the ship in the middle order. The two all-rounders Ariful Haque and David Wiese need to step up and deliver as well. Lasith Malinga and Shoriful Islam are the fast bowlers with Taijul Islam being the spinner.

Mohammad Mithun and Nahidul Islam are slotted to bat at five and six respectively. The batting has depth with Reza at eight. Mortaza, Reza and Shafiul Islam are the fast bowling options. Nazmul and Gazi are the spinners.
