Bangladesh as a cricketing nation has taken great strides and found ample success in the recent years. From being a walkover the Tigers have gone on to become a fearless team exactly like a cub grows up to be a savage. And they owe much of the credit to their domestic league, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Much like India’s IPL, the BPL has provided the country with a plethora of cricketers which has enriched the national team.
Recently, the tickets for the upcoming season, BPL 5 went online and the box office faced a massive response. So much so that a few people were left injured during ticket sales in Sylhet. As much saddening as it is, we can’t fail to miss the immense turnout and response the tournament has received. And this is not just restricted to the spectators.
BPL, for the first time, is set to feature a whopping 92 overseas players and over 80 Bangladeshi players. A tweet by cricket analytic Freddie Wilde serves as a testament to that.

With the stakes high, BPL is onset for becoming a cash-filled league. BPL franchisees had a maximum spending cap of TK173,700,000 including local and foreign players for the upcoming edition.
According to reports of the BPL governing council, Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians were the highest spenders, while Khulna Titans, Dhaka Dynamites, and Rajshahi Kings closely followed the above teams. Newly-entrant Sylhet Sixers spent TK 23,500,000 to form their team in a bid to win the coveted title on their maiden BPL outing.
All the seven franchise teams have completed player recruiting formalities during the auction for the shortest format of the game. National sensation and a marquee player of the tournament, Mustafizur Rahman was picked by the Rajshahi Kings in addition to Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim.
