The ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2022 was rocked by a controversy as all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was unceremoniously sacked as Chattogram Challengers captain. The 24-year-old had put the blame on the franchise’s CEO Yasir Alam, calling him the ‘biggest culprit’ behind the debacle. Moreover, the off-spinner was also all set to leave the camp citing personal reasons.

Although the Challengers did manage to convince him after a day-long drama but the all-rounder refused to take back the leadership. He even held a couple of press conferences before team owner MD Dato KM Rifatuzzaman intervened. As per the latest development, BPL Governing Council chairman Sheikh Sohel said on Monday (January 31) said that Chattogram Challengers’ officials and Mehedy Hasan will be summoned soon for a hearing.

We found out that both parties are at fault: BCB CEO

As the entire saga took a toll on the tournament’s image, Sohel said “they are not willing to tolerate such things.” “We have heard about the incident yesterday. We have discussed among ourselves in a meeting that included our CEO and Mallick bhai (BPL GC member secretary) and during the discussion we found out that both parties are at fault,” Sohel told reporters on Monday.

“Miraz (Mehedy) should not have done what he did during the tournament being a national player. He should not have acted in such a manner and could have waited as we have disciplinary committee,” he added. Sohel further said the franchise won’t be spared either.

“The franchise also have problem and we won’t spare the franchise. We will have a hearing in the coming days and we will call both the parties. The franchise should have been more patient and could have sorted out the matter by talking among themselves and making an understanding. This matter should not have gone this far,” asserted Sohel.

Meanwhile, Miraz, as per ESPNcricinfo, stated that the team management sacked him as skipper out of nowhere. “Actually I don’t have the mentality to play anymore. What happened on the last day, doesn’t really add up. Three hours before our match, they informed me I was no longer the captain. I told them that they could have informed me earlier. This is very insulting for a player,” he had said.
