The ongoing England vs India Test series has been in the news not only for the immense battle between the two teams but also for the repeated pitch invasion incidents from the same person. Jarvo (Daniel Jarvis) did it twice wearing the Indian jersey at Headingley and on the second day of the ongoing fourth Test, he once again breached the security at The Oval coming out to bowl for India.

Not only that, during his bowling run-up, Jarvo ended up barging into Jonny Bairstow standing at the non-striker’s end who was unaware about him. He was also shocked to see the same guy once again invading the pitch. The security officials pulled Jarvo out of the stadium. He was soon arrested for his actions and was under the custody of the South London police.

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar isn’t quite happy with the repeated breaches in security. He termed the incidents as ‘disturbing’ and also felt that Jarvo thudding into Bairstow is  serious happening and it should wake up the concerned officials.

“The breach of security for yet another time by the same person at the current Test match at The Oval is most disturbing. The fact that this serial offender actually barged into Jonny Bairstow should wake the mandarins at the ECB to the dangers of a player being seriously hurt by such breaches of security,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day.

Fortunately nothing untoward happened, says Sunil Gavaskar

The 72-year-old reckoned the troublemakers who have breached the security before shouldn’t be allowed to visit the grounds at all. Moreover, he also pointed out that nobody was aware of Jarvo before the pitch invading incidents and now the whole world knows him. Sunil Gavaskar noted that he has now become famous after involving in such incidents in the India game which is being watched by millions of fans.

“Today, it is easy to identify potential troublemakers and especially someone who in the last few days has breached the security at an earlier venue. So not allowing them entry into the ground itself would be the best option. Fortunately, nothing untoward happened and the offender will probably be fined heavily, most of which will be covered by the wagers he would have won for doing what he did.

“Before these intrusions, nobody even knew his name or who he was. But now, after wearing a counterfeit India cricket team shirt and entering three cricket grounds, he is famous or rather infamous, but still known to Indian cricket lovers now,” Gavaskar further wrote.
