Pat Cummins has risen through the ranks by delivering impressive performances over the past couple of years. The Australian pacer has been amongst the leading wicket-takers and has flourished as a vital cog for his national side.

The speedster has never played in the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians were successful in acquiring his services in 2018. However, a back injury ruled him out of the tournament. Coming into the IPL auction, the 26-year-old had set his base price at 2 crores INR. It was anticipated that the pacer would garner hefty bids in the auction. However, in the end, Pat Cummins emerged as the second-most expensive player in the IPL after Yuvraj Singh.

Kolkata Knight Riders snapped his services for 15.5 crores INR. It was the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who started the bidding for the pacer until Delhi Capitals marked their arrival into the ring. In a tussle between DC and RCB, Kolkata Knight Riders stormed their way, in the end, to acquire the services of the Australian for a mammoth sum of 15.50 crores.

Kolkata Knight Rider also bagged Eoin Morgan in the auction

KKR also got hold of another prominent player- England skipper Eoin Morgan. Brendon McCullum, the head coach of KKR, welcomed both the players who were bagged by his side.

Two outstanding gentlemen will return to @KKRiders! @Eoin16 with his power middle-order game & outstanding leadership help for @DineshKarthik & one of the game’s premier fast bowlers @patcummins30 who I feel was the best player on offer for this years@IPL auction Welcome boys!” tweeted McCullum. Cummins, in no time, responded to the head coach’s tweet.

“Can’t wait Baz,” responded Cummins while showing his excitement for donning the KKR jersey.

However, McCullum had a cheeky reply under his sleeve for the Australian speedster. McCullum suggested Cummins to rest for the remainder of New Zealand Test series in order to be in peak condition for the upcoming IPL season.

Think you should rest the remainder of the Nz Test series to make sure you will be in peak condition for the @ipl!!” tweeted McCullum.
