Brendon McCullum offers support to gravely ill Chris Cairns and his family

Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns suffered a major heart issue and as a result, his condition is stated to be critical. He is currently admitted to a hospital in Sydney.

And, former Kiwi cricketing legend Brendon McCullum has offered his hand for support to Cairns during this critical time. Chris Cairns was accused of match-fixing, and McCullum had spoken against Cairns during the whole episode.

But now, McCullum has stated that the relationship between him and Cairns is not important, and it is time for people to offer support to Cairns and his family at this juncture. McCullum added that he and his family are thinking about people who are suffering.

“It’s a difficult subject to obviously talk about. We haven’t seen each other for quite a long time. Our relationship is unimportant in the whole thing, the fact is that Chris is a father and also a son to Lance and Sue. They’ve already had such tragedy in their life with the loss of Chris’ sister a long time ago as well.

It’s a really difficult time for those people and I know the cricket community and all those who support the Cairns family will be suffering right now. Today my family and myself are thinking of those people who are suffering,” said McCullum on a radio show.

Chris Cairns was one of the greatest all-rounders of his time. In a career that spanned a decade and a half, Cairns represented New Zealand in 62 Tests, 215 ODIs, and 2 T20Is. While he scored 3320 runs in the whites, he also scalped 218 wickets in Test cricket as well.

In the ODI format of the game, the right-handed batsman plundered 4950 runs at an average of 29.46, and also scalped 201 wickets with the ball in hand as well. Cairns played his last international match for the Black Caps in the year 2006. The New Zealand cricketing legend is currently 51 years old.
