Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum has rejoined Middlesex on a deal that would see him play the first few matches in the NatWest T20 Blast. McCullum, who retired from cricket shortly before the start of the World T20 in 2016 has been traveling the world, playing in a plethora of domestic limited-overs’ tournaments. At 35, it would seem as though the Kiwi certainly has a lot of cricket left in him.

Speaking about his return, McCullum quipped that it was indeed an easy decision to make it back to the home of cricket. This comes at a time when McCullum is happy playing domestic cricket and what better place to play the sport he loves at the home of cricket – Lord’s Cricket Ground. “It was an easy decision to return to the home of cricket,” he said.

Angus Fraser, the director of cricket for the Middlesex County club went ahead and stated that the former skipper was certainly a massive influence on the grand scheme of things, especially given the fact that he is expected to have a similar impact this summer.

“Brendon had a hugely positive influence on the club in 2016 and I’m sure he will have a similar impact this summer,” said director of cricket Angus Fraser.

At 35, McCullum is viewed in the framework of the squad with a certain amount of authority as well as charisma and leadership. Fraser certainly hopes that it would be an exciting and enjoyable experience to relive one of the greats of international cricket. “With Brendon on board and the other exciting players we have, watching Middlesex play T20 cricket in 2017 should be an exciting and enjoyable experience.”
