Team India, on Sunday, suffered a shocking seven-wicket loss at the hands of Bangladesh in the first of three-match T20I series. The hosts were considered the favourites to win the game but Bangladesh defied all the odds to draw the first blood in the series. Despite missing the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh came up with a fine performance to get the better of their fancied hosts.

After asking India to bat first, Bangladesh did well to restrict them to 148. They started brilliantly with the ball as Shafiul Islam dismissed the in-form India skipper Rohit Sharma in the very first over. From that point onward, Bangladesh never let India get off the hook. They did struggle in the death overs but still managed to restrict the home side to less than 150.

In reply, they rode on their former captain Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten 60 to chase down the total with ease. With the pitch not being ideal for batting, Bangladesh did not look at their fluent best but never allowed the asking rate get out of hands. Their captain Mahmudullah finished the game in style by hitting Shivam Dube for a six in the final over.

Bad day in the office for Rishabh Pant

India’s young wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been facing criticism from all around for his struggles in the game. The hard-hitting batsman struggled with the bat and played an uncharacteristic knock of 27 from 26 balls. What made things worse for him is his struggles with the Decision Review System (DRS). The youngster did not look comfortably at all with the DRS.

The 22-year old convinced Rohit to opt for the DRS against Soumya Sarkar on the last ball of the 10th over. Pant thought that the left-handed batsman had edged the ball to him. While bowler Yuzvendra Chahal was unsure about the edge, Pant was confident and made the skipper review the decision. However, the UltraEdge showed a flat line as the ball went past the bat and India wasted their review.

In the same over, India had also opted against reviewing two decisions. On both occasions, Rahim was trapped LBW but Pant failed to spot the DRS chances. Replays, however, showed that he was wrong. And as Rahim went on to play a match-winning knock, the fans came down hard on Pant. They flooded Twitter with hilarious posts and also compared him with the legendary MS Dhoni.
