The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has managed to obtain insurance covers for the players and the officials. Pradip Dey, the CAB Medical Committee chairman, and Santanu Mitra, one of the members, had met the representatives of the  State Bank of India General Insurance (SBIGI) company. It’s for the massive COVID-19 outbreak that has put the entire country into a lockdown.

Responding to the same, the SBIGI confirmed the policies to the newly-appointed CAB president Avishek Dalmiya. The policy covers over 3200 personnel and it also includes women’s cricketers and former players, who have played for the Bengal team.

“We have instructed our third-party administrators to report cases of Covid-19 and no claims should be rejected. We shall be reviewing each case by merits and any claims pertaining to Covid-19 will not be rejected,” Dalmiya was quoted as saying in Sportstar.

There is no reason for them to panic: Avishek Dalmiya

“We are with our players, scorers and umpires as the world is witnessing Covid-19 outbreak. Our insurance policies cover hospital expenses arising out of Covid-19 for over 3200 individuals, including cricketers who are playing first and second division tournaments. It would also cover women players playing for Bengal and ex-cricketers who represented Bengal senior men’s team,” he stated.

Dalmiya urged people to not press the panic button and rather keep a calm head in the times of turbulence. “There is no reason for them to panic. However, it is always advisable to take adequate preventive measures to stop spreading of the virus. Wishing our players and match-officials safe times ahead,” Dalmiya added.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic across the globe, the CAB office will remain closed until March 27. Earlier, it was to be closed only till March 21, but after restrictions from the West Bengal Government, the dates have been extended.

On the field, Bengal have been impressive of late. They qualified for the final under the tutelage of the legendary Arun Lal. However, they lost to Saurashtra in the Final at the SCA Stadium after being edged out on first-innings lead. The likes of Anustup Majumdar, Wriddhiman Saha tried their best to rescue Bengal, but their efforts went in vain.
