Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is celebrating his 38th birthday today. Currently, the former cricketer-turned-politician is part of the Star Sports commentary team for the ongoing India-South Africa Test series. He was seen sharing his expertise and opinions on the post-match show on the official broadcaster’s channel.

Gambhir retired from the game in 2018, though he played his last game, a Test for India in 2016 against England. He retired with 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20I matches, making a total of 10,932 runs in international cricket with 20 centuries and the best Test score of 206 and highest ODI score of 150*. He also led India in a handful of ODI matches, achieving a whitewash of New Zealand at home in a series of 5 ODI matches.

He is still remembered as the unsung hero of India’s two biggest wins in limited-overs cricket, as he scored 75 in 2007 World T20 final against Pakistan and then scored 97 against Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final in Mumbai, but his performances were overshadowed by other players, but fans have shown support for the former cricketer.

Yuvraj Singh asks for cake on Gautam Gambhir’s birthday; the birthday boy replies

Gambhir has transitioned well from cricketer to politician winning the East Delhi seat in 2019 general elections fighting on a ticket from the BJP party. He also runs the Gautam Gambhir foundation which helps the needy in his constituency and also children of martyred paramilitary personnel, and empowers them by supporting their entire educational needs. He is known for his support for the Indian Army and its soldiers.

Gambhir shares a good rapport with his former India teammates and Yuvraj Singh is one of them. Yuvraj also called time on his international cricket in 2019 after a long hope for a comeback. He has now set his eyes on playing for foreign T20 leagues and recently took part in the Global T20 Canada. Being the prankster Yuvraj Singh is, he sent across a funny birthday wish to Gambhir, asking for cake.

Yuvraj tweeted, “Gg ! Where is the cake? Oh it’s on it’s way is it! Happy bday brother lots of love and best wishes neta ji @GautamGambhir”

To this Gambhir replied, “Thanks a lot brother! Cake is on its way and you should be on your way too to celebrate with me!! Lots of love!! #Prince”
