Indian head coach Ravi Shastri discussed some key details regarding the Boxing day Test which will commence inside 48 hours. The last time these both countries tussled at the MCG on Boxing Day, it turned out to be the final appearance in the white jersey for MS Dhoni in 2014. But this time, some debuts are on cards.

KL Rahul too made his Test debut in MS Dhoni‘s final game in Tests and although he’s come a long way from then, he has failed to consolidate his position in the top order. That’s the very reason his fellow Karnataka cricketer Mayank Agarwal has flown all the way Down Under and is highly likely to get his first cap on Wednesday.

Talking about him with the press, Shastri said his performances at the domestic level have been as good as anyone and indicated his debut might be happening in Australia. He noted that the management and skipper Virat Kohli will be taking a call on his selection in the playing XI in the next 12 hours.

“Mayank is a good young player. He has got loads of runs for India A. He is someone who has come through the ranks and when you look at his domestic record, his performances are as good as anyone. So that’s a call we will have to take in the next 24 hours,” Shastri said as quoted in Times Now.

Top order has to be more responsible and accountable

The Indian top order thus far has put up a dismal show, exerting intense pressure on the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli to do the run-scoring. One among KL Rahul and Murali Vijay will be shown the cold shoulder for the 3rd Test going by their current form and Shastri also added that the top batsmen have to be more responsible and accountable.

“Top-order problems are a big concern, that’s obvious. Responsibility and accountability has to be taken by the top order. I am sure they have got the experience and exposure over the last few years to get out there and deliver,” said Shastri.
