Virat Kohli has taken his game to a different level ever since he has worked on his fitness religiously. He is currently the best batsman across formats and not only has a fan following in India but abroad too. Kohli is set to lead India for the first time in a major ICC event.

Kohli was talked about a lot at the ‘Aaj Tak Salam Cricket 2017’ conclave. A number of former captains express their views on the forthcoming tournament on this platform. Former Pakistan captain Aamer Sohail showered a lot of praise on the Indian skipper rating him the best batsman going around in world cricket. Sohail likes Kohli’s aggressive attitude and said he wouldn’t mind paying to watch him play.

“I would go with Virat Kohli,” Sohail said when asked who he reckoned was the best batsman in world cricket now. “I like his attitude. The coaches would ask you to first defend the ball in our time. These days, batsmen are looking for boundaries (from the word go). Kohli is one exciting player. He is one cricketer you wouldn’t mind paying and watching in the cricket stadium.”

Kohli the best chaser says Hussain

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain, who was also present at the conclave, mentioned the name of Englishman Joe Root but tipped Kohli as the best when it comes to run chases.

“You cannot go beyond Kohli in a run chase. I would bet my life on Kohli.”

Shane Warne was also a part of this conclave earlier and he too named Kohli as the best batsman in all formats. Warne also said that Kohli is the best player of spin bowling in the India team which is otherwise okay and not as good as they used to be compared to their seniors.

Kohli the key to India’s success

Kohli holds the key to India’s chances of defending their title they won four years ago in 2013. At the age of 28, Kohli has already racked up 27 ODI hundreds while averaging 53.11 after scoring 7755 runs in 179 ODIs. Kohli puts pressure on bowlers by his aggressive style of play as his strike rate of 90.76 reflects.

All eyes are on India when they will be pitted against Pakistan on Sunday in Birmingham. India are hailed as strong favourites to win this battle but in an electrifying atmosphere and the unpredictability of Pakistan, one can’t guarantee anything.
