Chetan Sakariya, the Rajasthan Royals’ fast bowler, said that the money he earned from the 2021 Indian Premier League has helped in his father’s treatment. The 23-year-old made his IPL debut for Sanju Samson’s RR after being bought at a price of INR 1.20 crores.

After receiving a part of his salary, the left-arm speedster from Bhavnagar didn’t waste time in sending the amount to his family. The seamer said that the IPL has helped him stand on his feet in his ‘toughest time’ of late.

“I was lucky because I had received my part payment from Rajasthan Royals a few days ago. I straight away transferred money back home, and that is helping my family the most in my toughest time,” Sakariya was quoted as saying in The New Indian Express.

Cricket is the only source of my earnings: Chetan Sakariya

Being the sole breadwinner in his family, Sakariya talked about cricket being his only source of income and how it has helped him provide his father with the necessary treatments.

“People are saying stop IPL. I want to tell them something; I am the only bread earner in my family. Cricket is the only source of my earnings. I can give better treatment to my father because of the money I earned from IPL.

“Had this tournament not happened for a month, it would have been tougher for me. I come from a poor family; my father all his life drove tempo; and because of IPL my whole life, was about to change,” he added.

Sakariya played seven games for the Royals before the suspension of the tournament and picked up seven wickets, including a couple of three-wicket hauls. In his very first game against Punjab Kings, he returned with figures of three for 31 and dismissed KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Jhye Richardson.

He also picked up three wickets against the Chennai Super Kings as he got rid of Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni. Prior to the IPL, Sakariya had an experience of playing only 16 T20 matches where he picked up 28 wickets to go with a five-wicket haul for Saurashtra.
