There’s an air of excitement around the cricketing world. The mega auction for IPL is taking place today and tomorrow and all the teams will be looking forward to building a strong team that will help them win the IPL. Over 590 players are set to go under the hammer and 10 of them are placed in the marquee list with the highest base price of INR 2 Crores. With a few players were retained by each franchise that makes up for their core, they’ll be looking forward to building a strong team that will help them lift the title this season and the seasons to come ahead.

The first name from the marquee list was left-handed Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan. With the base price of INR 2 Crores, the 36-year-old started a bidding war between the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals. The bidding battle got heated between the Royals and the Capitals before the former left the bid at INR 4.80 Crores. Delhi was almost successful in getting back their opener when the Punjab Kings got into the bidding war. A long battle ensued between the sides before Delhi left the bid at INR 8.25 Crores and the Southpaw was sold for the same to the Punjab Kings.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Shikhar Dhawan’s bidding

Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the star opening batters in IPL over the years

Shikhar Dhawan, who started his IPL career in 2008, has played in 192 matches scoring a whopping 5784 runs up until now at an impressive average of 34.84 and strike rate of 126.64. He has hit two centuries and 44 fifty+ scores.

After consistent performances since the inaugural edition of the IPL, India’s star opener Shikhar “Gabbar” Dhawan returned to his hometown to bolster the Delhi Capitals’ batting unit in 2019. Dhawan was brought in by Delhi Capitals in a trade-off with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019.

Dhawan will be a key buy for the Punjab Kings as they are one short of an opener after the exit of KL Rahul. Dhawan along with Mayank Agarwal at the top of the order will provide the much-needed stability in the batting department that the Punjab franchise has been missing in the last few editions of the IPL.
