The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the 15 man squad for the upcoming edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. The selectors have also named 4 players as standby for the tournament. As the board had earlier remarked, they have named pretty much the same squad for the tri-nation series to be played in Ireland prior to the ICC mega event.

Bangladesh is scheduled to tour Ireland to play the tri-series that involved New Zealand as the third team along with hosts Ireland. The tri-series commences on May 12 and will be the preparatory ground for New Zealand and the Bangladeshi team for the Champions Trophy. The squad does not see too many new faces and apparently, the board has put forth the best possible experience on paper for the event.

Earlier, the Daily Star had quoted BCB Chief selector Minhajul Abedin as saying, “The deadline to send the squad for the Champions Trophy is April 25. That’s why we decided to make the team for both the tri-nation series in Ireland and the Champions Trophy. The team has done well and so there won’t be any surprise in the team.”

The chief selector has stuck with his words and announced the two squads that sees an overall number of 19 players involved. Mohammad Saifuddin in the only player to be named in the Champions Trophy standby list but not in the squad for the Ireland tri-series.

The team will be led by Mashrafe Mortaza and have the experience of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. Mahmudullah, despite not being in the best of forms, has been retained in the squad. Mustafizur Rahman, who is playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL at the moment, will part ways with his IPL franchise to join the national side in Ireland.

The other pacers in the lineup are Taskin Ahmed, Rubel Hossain, and Shafiul Islam. Mehedi Hasana and Sunzamul Islam will play the role of the slower bowlers in the lineup. The squad has no surprise inclusions and is pretty much a balanced one on paper. 4 standby players have been named in the squad for the ICC mega event.
