Charlie Dean, Emma lamb selected in England's squad for upcoming Women's World Cup

Dean took 10 wickets at an average of 19.20 in her debut series against New Zealand.

English young guns Charlie Dean and Emma Lamb made their way into the 17-member touring squad announced for the Women’s World Cup which is scheduled to begin on March 4. Charlie Dean, who is an upcoming off-spin all-rounder, was drafted into the England ODI squad at the age of 20 after putting up impressive performances for Southern Vipers and London Spirit.

The off-spinner took 10 wickets at an average of 19.20 in her debut series against New Zealand in September 2021 after she pipped experienced Sarah Glenn and Mady Villiers to selection. Dean played for the Southern Vipers in the Kia Super League. In the initial season, it was difficult for her to find opportunities but her breakthrough year arrived in 2020 when she was a part of the Vipers side that won the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

The youngster was also a part of the Women’s team London Spirit in the Hundred competition where she impressed one and all. Emma lamb has been added to the squad as a backup opener to Lauren Winfield-Hill and Tammy Beaumont. Lamb, who is a right-handed batter, made her debut in the Ashes where she was dismissed for a duck. Speaking about Lamb, Jonathan Finch, England Women’s Cricket Director said:

“Emma Lamb, a consistent performer across domestic cricket, comes into the squad after making her international debut last summer and offers multiple options with the bat and as an allrounder with her off-spin bowling.”

England Women’s squad for the World Cup 

The England team will be led by their skipper Heather Knight. They boast of a strong squad that features the likes of Katherine Brunt, Nat Sciver, and their 2017 World Cup final hero Anya Shrubsole in the pace department. While the spin department will be headed by their spin-sensation Sophie Ecclestone. The batting department boasts of the likes of Tammy Beaumont, who topped the batting charts in the 2017 Women’s World Cup.
