Arguably, the most loved franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings is all but set to make a comeback in the next edition of the IPL alongside the fellow suspended Rajasthan Royals. The Royals and the Super Kings were suspended from the tournament after their owners were found guilty of being involved in betting and fixing.

The franchise from Chennai announced their return on the microblogging platform in some style after Mumbai Indians’ victory over the Rising Pune Supergiant. Before their exit from the tournament, CSK had won two IPL titles. The first of those two coming against a batting oriented Royal Challengers side who failed to chase 206 runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium to hand the side from Chennai their first IPL trophy.

The second trophy was against the three-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai, who ended that edition of the tournament as the table toppers failed to get past the resurgent performance from the Super Kings.

While Rajasthan Royals also have won the tournament once; as they had glory in the inaugural season of the competition, where the side from Rajasthan led by Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne got over the line against the Chennai Super Kings.

Two new franchises replacing them:

Their absence has definitely let their fans down and also the other two franchises Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions, who were included at their expense have failed to perform consistently. While the Gujarat Lions entered the playoffs in their debut season, they sank attempting to cross over the dangerous Royal Challengers Bangalore side led by the in-form Indian batsman Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, the Rising Pune Supergiant entered the finals of the tenth edition of the tournament before stammering under pressure to hand over the trophy to the Mumbai Indians. The Supergiant have had their ups and downs in the two years, but sure they would leave the tournament with their heads held high.

However, the crazy fans of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals have never let their team down despite the team’s absence from the premier competition for two straight seasons in a row.

The CSK Twitter handle was active right away and posted a tweet to mark their return in the league.
