Delhi Capitals endured a disappointing season in IPL 2022, and so did their star buy of the auction, Chetan Sakariya. The left-arm pacer was snapped up by the Delhi-based franchise for INR 4.2 crore but was limited to just three games this season. The former Rajasthan player has spoken about one of his unique celebrations in this year’s edition.
Sakariya burst onto the scene last year, after a memorable debut season for the Rajasthan Royals. The 24-year-old bagged 14 wickets, going slightly over eight runs per over. His ability to swing the new ball caught the eyes of the experts and fans alike, but the left-arm quick featured for the Delhi side just three times and scalped three wickets in his brief outing.
During one of those three games, Sakariya was seen doing an eccentric celebration after dismissing Kolkata’s Aaron Finch. The prodigious bowler has revealed in a touching story, that the gesture was from one of the famous anime series ‘Dragon Ball Z’
“The day I played and dismissed Aaron Finch, I did that Dragon Ball Z celebration. Whenever the character did that, he used to get teleported to wherever he wanted. So I too teleported myself to my father and told him that look I have got an international player out. So that was really unique for me,” the pacer told Sportskeeda.
The Indian quick also remarked about the time, when his father used to tease him about not considering him a good player until he dismissed an international player. He believes his father’s antics to be the motivation behind his success in the IPL.
“Since I wasn’t a part of the playing XI, I began to feel very lonely. I used to have sleepless nights and used to miss my father a lot. He used to tease me at times by saying that he would consider me a good bowler, only if I dismiss an international player,” Sakariya added.
There is a lot of young talent that’s coming through from Saurashtra: Chetan Sakariya
The Saurashtra lad also stated that there is a surplus of young talented fast bowling all-rounders in the domestic leagues such as the Saurashtra Premier League. Sakariya is currently representing Zalawad Royals in the Saurashtra Premier League and bowled an impressive triple wicket maiden against Halar Heroes on Sunday.
“There is a lot of young talent that’s coming through from Saurashtra, especially fast bowling all-rounders. There is still a bit of time as they are U19 and U23 players. But definitely, Saurashtra will produce a lot of players in the IPL,” the left-arm quick added.
