Cheteshwar Pujara has been sworn as India’s No.1 Test batsman since the last season. Though he has been a one format feature for India, i.e. in the Test side, Pujara has left no stone unturned in proving his mettle and sound technique in the longer format.

Be it the Kiwis, the Poms, the Bangladeshi lions or the Baggy Greens, Cheteshwar Pujara has amassed runs at his own will against them all. His audacity with the bat has made the opposition tireless and clueless against him. Every time his team expected him to deliver, he has managed to achieve his goals within clearly defined timelines.

Ups and downs

The journey hasn’t always been all ups for Pujara as has had his own share of failures. However, his sheer determination and hard work have resulted in him turning around the tables. And the last season was a clear proof of his capability and willingness to contribute in whatever capacity.

After Ravichandran Ashwin in the Galle Test, now Pujara is all geared up to play his 50th test match. He was asked recently regarding which bowler has been the toughest he has faced in his career so far. He remarked that the duo of Steyn – Morkel gave him a really tough time during his first away tour.

“My first away tour after making my debut, in 2011 when we went to South Africa, facing Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel was the toughest part of my career. And I learnt and when I went there again in 2013, it was a different ball-game all together but yes, 2011 was tough,” he was quoted as saying by Wisden India.

Pujara scored a brilliant hundred in the first game and looked quite comfortable during his stay at the crease. He would be looking to continue the golden run as India look forward to playing the second Test at Colombo.
