Though England lost the opening Test against the West Indies by four wickets, Jofra Archer didn’t flatter to deceive. In the game at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, he bowled some vicious bouncers and got the batsmen in awkward positions. In the second innings, though the hosts were defending only 200, it was Archer’s hostile spells that kept the Three Lions in contention for victory.

It went without saying that if England had to make a comeback, Archer’s role would hold significance. He was named in the squad for the second Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester. However, in the morning of match-day, a startling revelation came to the fore. Archer had breached the bio-security protocol of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and was ruled out of the match.

Jofra Archer having tough time

It was learned that he went to his home in Brighton while going from the Rose Bowl to the Old Trafford. He was subsequently slammed for his irresponsible behaviour. Michael Atherton, the former England cricketer, termed Archer’s actions as “foolish” and said that they could undo all the good work done by the ECB for the resumption of cricket in the coronavirus pandemic.

Archer was sent for a five-day isolation period and he could only return to the field after testing negative twice for the ungodly COVID-19 virus. After the mishap, the young Archer also issued an apology and accepted the consequences for his actions. In the meantime, a backdated tweet of the Barbados-born Archer is doing the rounds.

Over the last year or so, a number of Archer’s tweets, which have had eerie connections with current happenings, emerged. When Jermaine Blackwood scored 95 runs in the second innings, Archer’s tweet, asking Blackwood to bat through, came to the fore.

This time around, a tweet where he regretted going home, emerged. Back on October 15, 2017, he had taken to Twitter and wrote, “Chose the wrong night to come home.” For the time being, it remains to be seen whether or not Archer gets to play the third and final Test in Manchester itself, starting Friday, July 24.
