West Indies’ Chris Gayle is one of the most loved cricketers in the world. He can entertain you with his dance moves as much as with his mighty sixes. His absence in the Champions Trophy 2017 was sorely missed as West Indies, being 9th on the ODI rankings then, could not qualify for the tournament.

He was equally missed during the India vs West Indies ODI series. However, when he finally made a T20I comeback after a year, in the recently played game against India, he could muster only 18 runs.

Prior to the game against India earlier this month, Gayle had last played an international T20 in March 2016 at the Eden Gardens, where West Indies won the T20 World Cup by defeating England. His last Test match came long ago in September 2014 against Bangladesh, after which he was never again seen in whites.

He has played 103 Tests in which he has scored 7214 runs at an average of 42.18. He had scored a mammoth 333 against Sri Lanka in 2010. When asked by Cricbuzz if fans could expect to see Gayle in whites ever again, he expressed his desire to represent West Indies once more in Test cricket.

“I cherish Test cricket the most. I treasure my time in whites for West Indies because that’s the format for which I have worked the hardest. Two triple centuries and an average of above 40 speaks for my Test cricket credentials. While I still want to play Test cricket, at least one last match, I’m not sure if my body will agree with the demands of the five-day game. But yes… one last time will be good.

At 37, Gayle may be nearing his career-end

Now that the T20 specialist is 37-year-old, it is uncertain if we can see him in whites again. But for now, Gayle will be eager to improve West Indies’ overall ranking in all formats until he decides to call time on his career.
