Chris Gayle names his cricketing idol

West Indies have been fortunate to have Chris Gayle as their opening batsman who has tormented the bowlers over the years. Though he hasn’t been able to live up to his reputation recently, the opposition is always worried when he is batting in the middle. He has been rested for the ongoing T20I series against Bangladesh and is enjoying the break. However, Gayle recently revealed his cricketing idol in a social media interaction with a fan.

The left-hander was recently the part of the three-match One-Day International series against Bangladesh and played a fantastic knock in the deciding game. While chasing the total of 302 runs, he got his team off to a brilliant start by scoring 73 runs off just 66 balls. Gayle looked at his ominous best as he smashed the bowlers for 6 fours and five massive sixes. Unfortunately, he couldn’t kick on and play a big knock but threatened to take the game away from the opposition.

Who is his cricketing idol?

Chris Gayle, on Friday, urged the fans to ask him questions by using the ‘Ask me anything’ feature of Instagram. No doubt his fans poured in a lot of questions soon. In one of those, the 38-year-old was asked about his idol and without wasting much time, the Universe Boss took the name of Brian Lara.

Lara is undoubtedly one of the best batsmen the game has ever seen. He is the only player on the planet to score 400 in an innings which he did against England in 2004. Gayle was also the part of that encounter and had witnessed the epic knock from the dressing room. He was the stylish batsman and used to pummel the best bowlers on any given day.

However, after him, Gayle has earned the same reputation and the legend will most likely hang his boots after 2019 Cricket World Cup next year in England. He would be keen to leave his mark on the tournament before bidding adieu to the game he loves the most.
