England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes who was under trial for the last one week at the Bristol Crown Court was today acquitted of affray. The jury found him not guilty and thus he all the charges were laid off of him. All this while, his wife, Clare Stokes stood by him and when the verdict was announced she couldn’t hold back her emotions.

She went down on the floor of the court and was in tears. Clare and Ben got married in October 2017, a month after the Bristol incident and today’s jury decision was a huge relief for the couple. Clare who is a primary school teacher by profession and mother of two walked out of the courtroom with her husband maintaining a satisfactory look on their face.

Relationship and responsibility

The two met for the first time when she was in the crowd watching a game and Stokes interacted with her while fielding at the ropes. Their bond grew stronger with time and the cricketer proposed to her in 2013.

After the birth of their first child the same year, the cricketer who was 22 then had said that he has got a lot responsible now and now gives attention to the important things in life.

“It has changed me being a dad because when you have a baby and you’re only 22, that brings a lot of responsibility with it,” he told The Daily Mail in 2013. “I still think I am a bit of a lad but there were just a few things in my life that needed a bit of attention and I’ve attended to them now,” Stokes added.

“Commitment was the hardest thing to get my head round. Me and Clare have got a very good relationship where she knows that, as important as the kids and her are, my friends are very important to me as well. She knows whenever I’m away for a long period of time, I’m desperate to see them also,” he had said explaining the dynamics of their relationship.

The day just got better for Stokes as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also decided to add him to the squad for the third Test at Nottingham. He will now join the team back after missing the previous match at Lord’s.
