Chandika Hathurusingha had earlier forwarded his resignation to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to step down as the head coach of the national team. Even though the board tried to retain him, their efforts went in vain. While there have been reports that he has an offered contract on the table to be the next Sri Lankan coach, though there’s no official confirmation on that yet.

Bangladesh cricketer Mahmudullah went on to express his admiration for the former coach. The all-rounder who was appointed as a goodwill ambassador for USAID Bangladesh was in the city to attend the event. He went on to praise Chandika’s contribution to Bangladesh cricket.

Obviously I will miss him

He remarked that since the decision wasn’t finalized yet, it was too early to make any comment. However, he admitted that Chandika’s presence was going to be missed in the Bangladesh dressing room.

“It’s too early to make a comment. Obviously I will miss him. He has made huge contributions to my success and he has done good things for us,” Mahmudullah told reporters.

No bitterness in relations with senior players

The 31-year-old quashed all rumours about the rifts between the coach and senior players. He stated that the team environment was more focused on cricket than any other matters.

“I totally disagree about his bitter relations with senior players and I think it’s not right. Everyone had good relations with him all the time. At times you hear a few things in a family and it’s better to work for the betterment of cricket rather than focusing on such things,” he was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

We have always supported the coach

He further mentioned that both the senior and junior players were given equal respect and that the coach had the support of all the players.

“He has always tried to be equal to the junior and senior members and we have always supported him,” said the right-hand batsman.

Mahmudullah also looked forward to showing off his batting prowess in the upcoming Sri Lankan tour in January.
