The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is currently in progress as St Lucia Stars hosted Guyana Amazon Warriors at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in the 15th match of the season. Stars are once again struggling for their existence in the competition but this time it was their skipper Kieron Pollard who turned things around for them. H smashed 30 runs off Devendra Bishoo’s 18th over and steered his team over the line to register their second win this year.

The hosts were chasing a middling total of 141 runs and were once again caught in the middle muddle. Though their opener Andre Fletcher held one end, it came down to the last three overs thanks to some disciplined bowling effort from the Warriors. But their captain Shoaib Malik missed the trick by exposing Bishoo in front of the in-form Pollard with the required run-rate just over 10 runs.

The assault

Stars needed 31 runs off the final three overs and one of the batsmen in the middle had to take on the bowling attack to reach close to the target. Kieron Pollard decided to have a go at the leg-spinner and his eyes lit up everytime the ball was tossed up by the bowler. The assault started with a full toss wide outside the off-stump and smacked it straight into the sightscreen.

The under-pressure bowler overcorrected his length and dropped the next ball too short and Pollard launched it into the cow corner. By now, he had made up his mind to end the game in this over itself and though Bishoo bowled quicker ones next up, it didn’t matter as the batsman continued hitting him out of the park. Eventually, it turned out to be the game-changing over and only a formality was left to complete.

Star chased down the total with 11 balls to spare as Pollard led the way fittingly with an unbeaten knock of 41 runs off 18 balls. Fletcher scored 45 runs and played a patient game to be named Man of the Match.
