Preview:

After 33 highly entertaining games, it has come down to arguably the best sides in the league, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Tridents, to fight it out for the CPL 2019 Trophy. Guyana Amazon Warriors are unbeaten in this tournament with eleven straight victories to their credit. Their opponents, Barbados Tridents didn’t start off brightly but did bounce back with the likes of Hayden Walsh and Shakib Al Hasan orchestrating a sensational run to the finals.

Both sides have faced each other three times in 2019 with Guyana coming up trumps in all of them. The last time they met each other, Brandon King smashed the Tridents’ bowlers to all parts of the ground to clinch a spot in the final in front of their home crowd. On a pitch that is expected to suit the spinners, Guyana Amazon Warriors has two of the best spinners in Chris Green and Imran Tahir.

They have picked 28 wickets between them in addition to the exploits of their openers, King and Hemraj. Barbados, on the other hand, will bank on its arsenal of all-rounders led by Jason Holder. Although they are formidable on paper, they will be sweating on JP Duminy’s fitness after the veteran limped off in the Second Qualifier against TKR.

Weather Condition/Report:

With this being an afternoon game, temperatures range from 30-32 degrees Celsius. There isn’t any threat of rain with partly cloudy conditions on offer. The wind is slated to blow from one end at 13 km/h while the cloud cover averages 46% throughout the game, according to AccuWeather

Pitch Condition/Report:

The pitch at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy is on the slower side with the spinners being the key on such surfaces. As many as 19 overs were bowled by spinners in the previous game between TKR and BT although there is some purchase for the pacers as well. Chasing would be the preferred option upon winning the toss.

Average first innings score: 154 ( 7 CPL Matches at the Brian Lara Stadium)

Record of chasing teams: Won – 4, Lost – 3

JP Duminy got retired hurt in the previous game and there is no update on his fitness yet ahead of the final.

Top Picks:

Although Shakib didn’t have the best of games against TKR, the Bangladesh all-rounder has ample experience to bank on for this marquee match. Shimron Hetmyer has only scored 215 runs this season but is a good player of spin. Against the likes of Walsh and Nurse, Hetmyer and his fellow team-mate, Chanderpaul Hemraj is a great option. With nearly 300 runs and a best of 3-15 with the ball, Hemraj is one to watch out for in Trinidad.

Expert Advice:

Spinners are a safe choice for this game with the likes of Imran Tahir, Chris Green and Hayden Walsh in good form. They have picked 15, 13 and 21 wickets respectively and look good for more wickets.

Middle-order batsmen, who have a penchant for clearing the boundaries at ease, could have a greater say in the proceedings. Nicolas Pooran and Ashley Nurse are two individuals who are striking at 163.11 and 144.44, making them viable punts heading into the final.

Probable Winners:

Guyana Amazon Warriors holds the edge over their opponents and should sneak past them to win the Caribbean Premier League 2019 Final.
