The 17th game of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2019 will be played between St Lucia Zouks and Barbados Tridents at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.
The match starts at 8:00 PM local time (12:00 AM GMT) (5:30 AM IST)
This series will be live on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 2 HD in India. Live streaming is available on Hotstar.
The teams like SKN Patriots and Tallawahs featured in 8 and 7 matches respectively already. But the St Lucia Zouks and Barbados Tridents have played the fewest – 4 and 3 respectively. Both are yet to play a match at their home ground. The St Lucia team will get the chance as they host the Tridents on Friday night. The Zouks have played some good cricket but have got only two points to show in their tally.
Even that one win came against the Jamaica Tallawahs, who are present at the bottom of the table. The inclusion of Colin Ingram should give stability in the batting of Zouks who have a good mixture of slow bowlers. On the other hand, the Barbados Tridents won one of the three matches they played and are placed at 5th in the table. They have roped in Daniel Christian who will join from their home-leg.
Clear weather is expected on Friday night during the first match of this edition in St Lucia. However, there are chances of rain in the latter part of the match which could interrupt the match. The rain might not be threatening to cause a reduction in overs.
During the CPL 2018, there were three 200+ totals recorded in St Lucia by first batting teams. The chasing teams chased it down once and finished with scores of 180 in the other two. At the same time, remaining two matches had totals of 69 and 140 while batting first. But those two matches were played on used surfaces. This gives a hint of how the pitches here play when they are fresh.
Average first innings score: 171 (CPL matches since 2018)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 3, Lost – 2
There is no update regarding Shai Hope’s recovery from the hand injury he suffered during the Test series against India.
Thisara Perera called back by SLC and Colin Ingram replaces him.
Daniel Christian replaced Asif Ali in Barbados Tridents but he could be available only from Monday after the completion of the finals day on Saturday.
Probable Playing XIs:
St Lucia Zouks:
Andre Fletcher, Rahkeem Cornwall, Colin Ingram, Colin de Grandhomme, John Campbell/Roland Cato, Daren Sammy, Kavem Hodge, Obed McCoy, Fawad Ahmed, Hardus Viljoen, Kesrick Williams.
Bench – Andre McCarthy, John Campbell/Roland Cato, Daniel Christian, Krishmar Santokie, Najibullah Zadran, Thisara Perera, Christopher Barnwell, Jeavor Royal, Keddy Lesporis.
Alex Hales, Johnson Charles, Leniko Boucher, JP Duminy, Jason Holder (C), Jonathan Carter, Hayden Walsh, Ashley Nurse, Roshon Primus, Josh Lalor, Sandeep Lamichhane.
Bench – Joshua Bishop, Chemar Holder, Shai Hope, Justin Greaves, Raymon Reifer.
The bowlers Hayden Walsh, Sandeep Lamichhane, Fawad Ahmed and Obed McCoy have done a brilliant job taking 2 wickets every game on a consistent basis. Colin de Grandhomme’s form with both bat and ball can be made use by making him vice-captain. Colin Ingram might take little time to get used to the conditions in CPL.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Captain – Rahkeem Cornwall, Johnson Charles, JP Duminy, Colin Ingram
Vice-Captain – Andre Fletcher, Colin de Grandhomme, Jason Holder, Alex Hales
Rahkeem Cornwall could tear down the Barbados bowlers and could even contribute. He could be made the captain or vice-captain.
Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Andre Fletcher
Batters – Alex Hales, Johnson Charles, Colin Ingram
All-Rounders – Rahkeem Cornwall (C), Colin de Grandhomme, Jason Holder (VC), JP Duminy

Suggested Playing XI No.2 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Leniko Boucher
Batters – Johnson Charles, Colin Ingram, Daren Sammy
All-Rounders – Rahkeem Cornwall, Colin de Grandhomme (VC), JP Duminy (C), Ashley Nurse
Bowlers – Hayden Walsh, Obed McCoy, Fawad Ahmed
Only one of Jason Holder and Ashley Nurse can be picked in the XI among the all-rounders as Rahkeem Cornwall, Colin de Grandhomme and JP Duminy are performing consistently over the last month where ever they played.
The St Lucia Zouks could sneak in a win due to their bowling attack suitable to home conditions.
