Preview:

CPL 2019 action shifts to Tarouba for the final two games of what has been a highly entertaining tournament. Defending champions, Trinbago Knight Riders is pitted against Barbados Tridents with a place in the final beckoning for both sides. Both teams played their last match on Sunday where only TKR were good enough for a win. Barbados Tridents came across a rampant Brandon King, who scored a superlative hundred to pummel the opposition into submission.

In the league phase, Barbados Tridents demolished Trinbago on both occasions. While JP Duminy led the way with the fastest-ever fifty in CPL history in Barbados, Harry Gurney and Johnson Charles were the architects of a stunning win at the Queen’s Park Oval.

They would be wary of Trinbago Knight Riders at this venue though considering their record. TKR is yet to lose a game at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy with the home side winning the last two CPL finals at this very venue. On paper, both sides are equally matched and should partake in what promises to be an exciting contest to compete against Guyana Amazon Warriors for the Championship.

Weather Condition/Report:

Although rainfall is expected on Thursday, it should stay away during the match hours. There is a small chance that the match is delayed or interrupted with a cloud cover of 96% expected during the start of the game. While the temperature should hover around 26 degrees Celsius, at least a shortened match should be completed.

Pitch Condition/Report:

A good batting track with ample turn for the spinners awaits both sides. Considering the persistent rain prior to the start of the match, the pitch could be a touch on the slower side. Pacers will also tend to revert to off pace deliveries which should make for an even contest between bat and ball.

Average first innings score: 153( 6 CPL Matches at the venue)

Record of chasing teams: Won – 4, Lost – 2

Top Picks:

Colin Munro starred in the final with a superlative fifty as he guided TKR to the CPL 2018 Trophy. Although he has scored 215 runs in seven innings so far, he is capable of much more in the Trinbago Knight Riders’ top order. Sunil Narine returned with a bang in the previous game with an astonishing spell of bowling. With figures of 2/10 to show for, Narine looks to be in good form and should make good use of the conditions.

JP Duminy has been one of the best middle-order batsmen in the CPL this year. His tally of 281 runs is quite commendable with his part-time off-spin also coming into play. In spite of playing only seven games, Hayden Walsh has picked 19 wickets so far for the Tridents. His record against the Knight Riders is also good with the leggie picking a fifer earlier in the season.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Captain – Colin Munro,  Sunil Narine,  Shakib al Hasan

Vice-Captain – Darren Bravo,  Alex Hales,  JP Duminy

Colin Munro’s record in the T20 format makes him a bankable option with the Kiwi due for a big knock in CPL 2019.
