CPL 2020: Match 18, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Jamaica Tallawahs: Preview, Live Streaming, Timings, Predicted XI, Stats, Pitch Report & more

The 18^th match of the CPL 2020 is scheduled between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and the Jamaica Tallawahs on 29^th August at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.

The Jamaica Tallawahs have lost three out of their five league matches and sit at second from the bottom in the points table. They are coming to face the Patriots after taking the beating by Barbados Tridents in the last match. Rovman Powell and his men bore the brunt of Kyle Mayers’ bat who slapped 85 runs from 59 balls as Tridents asked Tallawahs to chase 149 runs.

In response, the Tallawahs top-order was left in tatters and they were reduced to 27 for 4. Jermaine Blackwood and Nkumrah Bonner’s knocks did help them a bit but certainly not enough as they fell short by a reasonable margin 36 runs and increased their problems by taking a blow on their net run rate.

The Patriots’ story is sorrier than Tallawahs as they are placed right at the bottom of the table with the column of matches lost reading four out of five. They were slammed by the St Lucia Zouks in their last game as Mohammad Nabi’s maiden fifer rattled them to the core. None of their men was able to survive with the bat for long apart from Ben Dunk and a small cameo of 20 runs by Alazarri Joseph lower down the order through which they managed 110/9 from their allotted 20 overs.

The bowlers failed to emulate the performance of the Tridents as they chased down the target in with over 5 overs to spare. Leg spinner Imran Khan did well to bag 3 wickets, however, defending such a low score was never possible with just a solitary bowler’s success.

Both the teams have faced shameful defeats in their journey and would want to restore their lost pride apart from pocketing the two points on offer.

Pitch and conditions

There is no reason because of which the spin assisting template of the tournament will change tonight. In fact, this being the second game of the day, the help for spinners will only increase if not remain constant. Teams have preferred chasing more than defending this year and therefore the ideal choice will be to field first. There are chances of rain but none of it good enough to shorten the match.

Chris Lynn’s run has underwhelmed all those who were looking forward to him and he would want to get something with the bat before the end of things. Evin Lewis’s story has not been only marginally better due to his blistering 89 against Tridents the other day. Denesh Ramdin has had a roller-coaster ride but he is expected to play anyway. Jahmar Hamilton did everything to be dropped but he might be given a shot with Patriots having nothing to lose.

Ben Dunk has not played the way he was expected, however, he was the only one who survived against Nabi’s fire in the last game. Nick Kelly has been another disappointment in the season but he might get a game tonight. Skipper Rayad Emrit’s run with the ball has been heartening and he must be wanting to continue his good form.

Either Sohail Tanvir or Sheldon Cottrell should play whereas after a brilliant 3-for in the last game, leggie Imran Khan’s spot looks secured. Jon-Russ Jaggesar has had a lukewarm tournament but he has done just enough to keep himself in the eleven as has Alazarri Joseph.

Jamaica Tallawahs

Chadwick Walton has given back-to-back dismal performances though the lack of options in his slot has forced Tallawahs to keep him in. Glenn Phillips missed out in the last match as he was dismissed for a duck, however, he has been making runs at the top otherwise.

Jermaine Blackwood was one of the only contributors alongside Nkumrah Bonner in the last game and should form the middle-order alongside Asif Ali. Andre Russell, the master of the format, has not been able to leave impressions much like his Caribbean counterpart Carlos Brathwaite.

Spinners have been enjoying their time in the CPL and Sandip Lamichchane and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman have ensured to miss no parties. Fidel Edwards has done well to get his economy in check and is expected to play along with Veerasammy Permaul.
