CPL 2020: Match 19, Barbados Tridents vs St Lucia Zouks – CPL's lowest defended total, Rashid’s milestone and more stats

St Lucia Zouks continue to produce some impressive performances in the CPL 2020 as they pulled off an unlikely 3-run win against Barbados Tridents on Sunday. St Lucia reached 50-run mark in 8.1 overs while batting first but could only make 42 runs in the next ten overs before getting bowled out for 92. The Tridents were cruising towards a win having made 52/3 in the first ten overs. But Daren Sammy’s strategy of bowling ten consecutive overs of spin fared well as the Tridents were restricted to 89/7 after scoring just 37 runs in the last ten overs.

The lowest defended CPL total:

92/10 – St Lucia Zouks’ total of 92/10 is now the lowest total defended successfully in the history of CPL. Overall, it is the 5th lowest total defended successfully in Twenty20 cricket (full 20-over games). The top four totals in this list came during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

92/10 – The total of 92/10 by St Lucia Zouks is now the lowest total defended successfully in a Franchise T20 League. The previous lowest was 99/9 by Duronto Rajshahi against Chittagong Kings in the 2013 edition of BPL.

1 – Daren Sammy is now the first captain in Twenty20 history to be successful in defending totals under 100 on two occasions. He was the captain of the West Indies team when they defeated Ireland in the 2014 Kingston T20I after posting only 96/9 in the first innings.

A game of low totals:

89/7 – Barbados Tridents’ total of 89/7 is the lowest by any team in the CPL even after batting full 20 overs. The previous lowest was 95/9 by Trinidad against the Tridents during the 2015 season match in Bridgetown.

89/7 – The total of 89/7 by Barbados is the lowest CPL total for any team against the St Lucia franchise. The previous lowest was 110/9 by Guyana Amazon Warriors a couple of days ago. Before this season, no team completed their innings with a total of 120 or lower against St Lucia in the CPL.

92/10 – The St Lucia Zouks’ total of 92 is now their 2nd lowest total in the CPL. The lowest CPL total of St Lucia is 69 during the 2018 edition against the SKN Patriots. St Lucia Zouks put on 92 during the 2013 edition game also against Barbados Tridents.

Rashid’s milestone:

100 – The wicket of Zahir Khan was the 100th ‘bowled’ dismissal with the ball for Rashid Khan in Twenty20 cricket. Rashid is now the 3rd player after Lasith Malinga (152) and Wahab Riaz (108) to have picked 100+ ‘bowled’ wickets in T20s. Rashid already has 61 LBW wickets in Twenty20 format; the most for any bowler.
