The 24th match of the CPL 2020 is scheduled between Guyana Amazon Warriors and the St Lucia Zouks on 3rd September, at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad.

The Warriors, with 4 losses and as many wins in their 8 matches, are placed third on the table whereas the Zouks, with 5 victories and 2 losses in their 7 matches, are placed second. The last time these two teams met, Darren Sammy’s men clinched the match by 10 runs courtesy Roston Chase’s brilliant 66 and Imran Tahir’s 3-for.

The second-placed Zouks are coming with some winning momentum behind themselves as they pulled off a blinder against the Barbados Tridents. Their batting unit failed miserably as the Tridents bowled them out for a trivial 92 in 18 overs. However, the bowlers led by example in what proved to be one of the most thrilling and bizarre victories in the history of the CPL as they restricted their opponents to 89 for 7.

The Guyana Amazon Warrior did not treat the Tridents differently while facing them in their last game. Naveen-ul-Haq broke their spine through his magnificent 4-for as they were bowled out for merely 92 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Chasing a harmless total, Brandon King scored a solid half-century as he led his team to win the game in just 16.4 overs.

With 10 points in their pocket, the Zouks have ensured their place in the next stage of the tournament. However, the Warriors cannot be complacent being placed at the third spot given the cut-throat competition building underneath.

Pitch and conditions

The weather forecast is not promising as there are high chances of rain during today’s encounter. However, this could mean something to cheer about for the fast bowlers who would look to utilize the overcast conditions to their benefit. The spinners have got assistance from the wicket without a single exception in the league thus far and that will stay. Given the chances of rain, both the teams need to be wary of the DLS situation.

Playing combination

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Warriors’ top-order woes do not seem like coming to an end ever. Despite trying a range of combinations such as Chandrapaul Hemraj, Anthony Bramble, Kevin Sinclair, and Justin Greaves alongside Brandon King, none have responded well. Although Shimron Hetmyer has gone completely off-touch, he is their best bet and he will continue.

Ross Taylor has also been making contributions in the middle-order apart from Keemo Paul, whereas Nicholas Pooran has got his form back after his scintillating ton off 45 balls against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Skipper Chris Green has not been able to make an impact with the bat, but with the ball, he has been phenomenal throughout the season. Naveen-ul-Haq, who bagged a 4-for in an extremely impressive spell, was the pick of the bowlers in the last game and would want to contribute in the same manner. Imran Tahir has been in wickets as well and is expected to play.

Predicted XI- Brandon King, Kevin Sinclair, Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Ashmead Nedd, Romario Shepherd, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Imran Tahir.

Bench: Ashmead Nedd/ Kissoondath Magram, Odean Smith, Anthony Bramble, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Sherfane Rutherford, Jasdeep Singh

St Lucia Zouks

Rahkeem Cornwall failed to provide a start in the last game and right after their dismissal, the wickets started falling in heaps. Leniko Boucher, however, held himself or a while before perishing. Roston Chase, who has contributed quite consistently with both bat and ball, is expected to form the middle order alongside the Afghan lads: Najibullah Zadran and the Zouks’ savior, Mohammad Nabi.

Javelle Glen picked a couple of wickets for just 11 runs and bowled with great control in the last game. Scott Kuggeleijn, who looked in good touch as he kept bagging wickets match after match, seems to have lost his firm a bit of late, however, Kesrick Williams, who bagged a couple of wickets with the ball in the last game, has been in rhythm.

Predicted XI- Rahkeem Cornwall, Andre Fletcher (WK), Leniko Boucher, Roston Chase, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Javelle Glenn/Mark Deyal, Darren Sammy (C), Scott Kuggeleijn, Kesrick Williams, Zahir Khan

Bench- Saad Bin Zafar, Kavem Hodge, Obed McCoy, Chemar Holder, Kimani Melius, Javelle Glenn/Mark Deyal
