Trinbago Knight Riders made it two in two as they raced away to a 7-wicket win against Jamaica Tallawahs on Thursday night. Opener Glenn Phillips smashed four maximums during his 42-ball 58 while the Tallawahs failed to get going. Another poor knock from Andre Russell (25 off 26) saw Jamaica finish with 135/8 in 20 overs. The first half of TKR’s chase was all about Sunil Narine’s batting who smashed nine boundaries in his 38-ball 53. Colin Munro’s unbeaten 49 helped the home team to complete the chase with 11 balls to spare.

Here are all the statistical highlights from TKR’s second consecutive win of the tournament:

TKR’s winning streak over Jamaica:

4 – The Trinbago Knight Riders have won each of their last four CPL matches against the Jamaica Tallawahs. Their winning streak over the Tallawahs began in the second half of the league stage in the 2018 season.


Both innings start with a wicket:

2 – This game between Tallawahs and Knight Riders is only the 2nd in CPL history where both the teams lost their first wicket without a run on the board. Chadwick Walton got out on the 2nd ball of Tallawahs while Lendl Simmons was dismissed on the 3rd ball of TKR’s innings.

The other such instance was recorded during the 2017 edition match at the Sabina Park in Kingston. Simmons got out on the first ball of the Tallawahs’ innings while Chris Gayle on 3rd ball of SKN Patriots.


Ducks and fifties by openers:

1 – The match between Jamaica Tallawahs and Trinbago Knight Riders is the first in the history of CPL where two openers bagged ducks while the other two scored 50+ runs. Chadwick Walton and Lendl Simmons got out for a duck in the first over of respective innings while Glenn Phillips (58) and Sunil Narine (53) scored fifties.


A record duck for Simmons:

8 – Number of ducks for Lendl Simmons in the Caribbean Premier League; the joint 2nd most for any player in the tournament ever. Sunil Narine has nine ducks thus far while Kieron Pollard also been dismissed eight times for a duck in this league.


Back to back fifties for Narine:

8 – The 53-run knock against Jamaica was Sunil Narine’s 8th fifty in the Twenty20 format. He scored 50 in their previous match against the Guyana team in the tournament opener. This is now the first instance of Narine scoring fifties in back to back innings or matches.


Another slow knock from Russell:

96.15Andre Russell’s strike rate of 94.12 in this match is his lowest in a Twenty20 innings wherever he faced 20 or more balls. In fact, this was the first-ever T20 inning of Russell where he scored runs at a strike rate under 100 even after facing 20+ balls.


2 – Russell ended with a strike rate below 100 for the second consecutive time in this season despite facing 15 and more balls. Prior to this tournament, Russell never finished with a strike rate under 100 in a CPL match where he faced at least 10 balls. Russell had a strike rate of at least 100 in all the 26 CPL innings where he faced 10+ balls before the current tournament.
