After their second match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020, the Guyana Amazon Warriors managed to go atop the points table. Chris Green and Co lost to the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) but came back with a three-wicket win against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. They will next be facing the Jamaica Tallawahs in the second of Friday’s doubleheader at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.

On head-to-head count, the Warriors are leading the Tallawahs by 11-7. At the very venue, the two teams have met once with Guyana coming out trumps back in 2017. Jamaica started with a thumping victory over the St Lucia Zouks but then lost to the Trinbago Knight Riders in their second game. Chris Green’s Warriors won’t be an easy proposition for them by any stretch of the imagination.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the venue has had something for most. There has been a balance between bat and ball and it’s not expected to be any different even for the 8th game. The spinners will be coming into play. There are chances of rain and hence there could be interruptions during the course of a match. The temperature will be around 30 degrees Celsius with the humidity around 70 per cent.

Playing Combinations

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Warriors have a power-packed batting, but it’s Shimron Hetmyer, who has done most of the work, scoring 134 runs at a strike-rate of 152.27. Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj- the two openers- have looked terribly out of form. Nicholas Pooran bagged a duck in the last game as well.

Rutherford is also yet to fire. In bowling, Keemo Paul has been the standout performer with five wickets at an economy of 5.71. Imran Tahir and Chris Green have been a tad expensive than usual with economy in the sevens. Naveen-ul-Haq and Romario Shepherd also have their roles to play.

Predicted XI

Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Romario Shepherd, Naveen-ul-Haq, Imran Tahir

Jamaica Tallawahs

The Tallawahs have always possessed some of the biggest hitters of the cricket leather, but their batting is yet to click. Apart from New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips, who has scored 102 runs at a strike-rate of 143.66, none of them has stepped up. Chadwick Walton has failed miserably at the top of the order.

Andre Russell hasn’t found his touch and though he has 41 runs to his name, they have come at a mere strike-rate of 95.34. Russell has also been expensive with an economy in excess of nine. In bowling, Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been the most impressing, picking three wickets at an economy of 4.75.

Predicted XI

Chadwick Walton (wk), Glenn Phillips, Nicholas Kirton, Rovman Powell (C), Asif Ali, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Veerasammy Permaul, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Oshane Thomas
