2. Alex Carey

Alex Carey is a constant figure in Australia’s 50-overs setup. He is the team’s first-choice wicketkeeper and is seen as a natural-born leader. He is seen as one of the front-runners to succeed Finch as the national team’s next ODI skipper.

The 31-year-old has experience leading Australia in the ODIs. In the 50-overs series against the West Indies last year, when Finch got injured and regular vice-captain Cummins was also absent, Carey was handed over the mantle to lead Australia.

Carey did an exceptional job back then to lead his side to a series win. The wicketkeeper-batter might be Australia’s long-term prospect as a leader. With the regular vice-captain Cummins being rested during tours to manage his workload, the southpaw could be given the reins in the ODI format on a full-time basis.
