Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) poor run against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders was prolonged in their last IPL 2023 outing as they succumbed to their fifth successive defeat against the Men in Purple at the Chinnaswamy. While the bowlers did manage to restrict the visitors to a par total on a batting paradise, the batters failed to live up to their reputation.

While skipper Faf du Plessis is expected to return to the side in full capacity, Josh Hazlewood's addition to the squad will also boost the under-fire bowling unit against a menacing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, the bowlers will have their work cut out against the LSG batters, who posted a record total in their previous outing.
Here's Royal Challengers Bangalore's predicted XI against Lucknow Super Giants:
Openers: Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli
Royal Challengers Bangalore's regular skipper, Faf du Plessis, might be suffering from a rib injury, but that has not stopped him from piling the runs with the bat at the top of the order. The Orange Cap holder is a fair distance away from his competitors in the leading run scorer's chart and will be looking to add to his tally in the upcoming fixture.
Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli is the second leading run scorer for his side in this year's tournament, and it was his brisk half-century against Kolkata Knight Riders that kept his side in the match. However, his untimely departure completely derailed the RCB chase as they succumbed to a 21-run defeat against KKR.
Middle Order: Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Suyash Prabhudessai
Explosive Aussie batter Glenn Maxwell failed to replicate his heroics with the bat against the Kolkata-based outfit as he was dismissed cheaply by KKR's mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, for a second time in the ongoing 16th edition of the tournament. He has been a crucial part of the side this year and runs from his bat often bodes well for the team.
Bangalore's 23-year-old Indian middle-order batter Mahipal Lomror has been under fire this season because of his sluggish run with the bat so far. However, the southpaw played a decent hand for RCB after a flurry of wickets in the powerplay. He stitched a valiant partnership with stand-in skipper Virat Kohli and will look to continue the same form in the upcoming game.
RCB's veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik is looking like a shadow of himself in this year's tournament. The 37-year-old batter who grabbed the headlines with his tremendous power-hitting abilities in last year's edition, managed 22 runs in 18 deliveries, failing to take his side over the line against KKR.
All-rounders: Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga
Another RCB player who has failed to live up to the expectations after an impressive IPL 2022 is Indian all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed. His promotion in the batting order backfired for the second game running for the Bangalore-based franchise. Earlier in the match, he was hammered for 25 runs in his solitary over.
Sri Lanka's ace spinner Wanindu Hasaranga finally found his groove in this year's competition, as he was at his deceptive best in the previous outing against KKR. The 25-year-old spinner was miserly in his four overs, conceding just 24 runs and returning with two crucial scalps of Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer to restrict the damage in the latter stages.
Bowlers: Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj
Harshal Patel was the star performer for RCB in their victory against Rajasthan Royals. However, the pacer failed to replicate his heroics with the ball against two-time champions KKR, as he was taken for 44 runs in his four overs. His inability to put a lid on the scoring rate in the death overs is really hurting the team this season.
It will be a much-anticipated return to action for star Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood in this year's competition. Hazlewood, who was sent back to Australia midway through the Test series against India earlier this year, will make his first appearance for his side this year against a high-flying Lucknow Super Giants.
It was a rare off day for Mohammed Siraj in IPL 2023 as he conceded 33 runs in his four overs against KKR. However, he did manage to dismiss the dangerous Andre Russell in the death overs to take his tally to 14 wickets this season, reclaiming the Purple Cap in the process.

Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (c), Mahipal Lomror, Glenn Maxwell, Shahbaz Ahmed, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Suyash Prabhudessai, Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj
